Creating Encrypted Wallpaper was pure fun. The geometric shapes, the cryptic characters, just great fun.
"As a kid I had my own secret code. I used to write encrypted letters with my best friend", says Type Director René Verkaart. "We talked about girls and school stuff. Nothing serious, but still we wanted that nobody else could read it, but us."
“Today people don’t write letters by hand anymore. computer generated letters are signed with digital signatures and are send over the anonymous world wide web rather than being signed, sealed and delivered by a person. This is a great loss. The state of mind, the passion & the personality of the writer are replaced by state of the art typefaces that reveal more about the quality of The laserwriter than the person involved. computer generated typefaces are more and more losing their details and personality and are expected to fit-the-grid. but what if you want to say something out of the ordinary, something that can't be grid fitted? how do you then escape from the norm?” my wish is that my typefaces give people the means to express themselves. whether they are happy or sad, angry or in love. or perhaps they just want to be seen as the person that they are.
