Installing Mac PostScript Type 1 (Mac OS X)
SUPPORT - Need help with installing your fonts under Mac OS X?
The easiest way is just to double click on the Installer Icon and follow the prompts. This will copy the fonts to the correct place on your hard drive.
You can also do it manually if you want. At best you should have three files installed on your Mac; a suitcase-file (containing the bitmap and kerning information), a PostScript-file (containing the outline and spacing information), and the afm-file (which repeats kerning information to some applications). Place the complete folder in its original state (including all three files) in the ‘Library/Fonts’ folder.
An exception to the location of the fonts are the first versions of Mac OS 10.0.x. Type 1 fonts have to be installed at ‘System/Libray/Fonts’. Otherwise the system will not recognize those fonts. This bug was fixed in Mac OS 10.1.x.
If you are using the ‘Classic’ environment, follow the instruction for Installing Mac Postscript type 1 (Mac OS 8.x and 9.x).
You don’t necessarily need a font management utility to make your fonts working, because Macintosh OS X has native support for PostScript fonts. Mac OS X comes standard with FontBook, Apple’s own font management program. For some people, a third party font management utility could make their life a bit more easy. Font Reserve and Suitcase are two possibilities. If you plan to use one of these programms, please follow their instructions for installing fonts.
