About Rene Verkaart

Who am I? That's a good question. I can't really answer that though. I'm still discovering lots of new things about me.
I can tell you what I do know; I don't like anything normal, narrow minded people, mediocracy and a colorless lifestyle.

Why typefaces?

It's my flow! I submerge in my fonts when I'm working, forget where I am and why I am. I just AM. Isn't that something worth preserving?

For me personally, typefaces are a way of expressing yourself. This can mean as an individual but also as a company. Hence my slogan 'Dutch typography to express yourself'.

A free mind

Most of my typefaces (I call them my 'characters') originate in my holidays. There I can free my mind and get inspired by my surrounding.

The best example for that is my Reethi Rah. I designed this during my honeymoon in August 2005 on the Maldives. It's inspired by the resort where we were living and the mood I was in at the time.

Web development

I'd like to thank Jasper Rooswinkel from Diamedia Minds for doing a fantastic job with the website. Jasper, it's always a pleasure to work with you.

The website was developed in a HTML 5 & CSS 3 ecosystem and leans heavily on jQuery for bringing you the best possible user experience on the latest browsers as well as the iPad.
